And it Begins all over Again (Start of Summer 2021)

Well we are off and at it again after a tragic year for all in the world filled with COVID. Very little travel and very little to want to write about over the past year.

Ok…so no more depressing comments, let’s move on. We started this trip from Corpus Christi and went north to the DFW area. The drive up started with rain at the farm which delayed our start for a few hours and by the time we reached Ft Worth it was starting to get dark. Well as we stated before when first starting to travel, never try to find your camp spot in the dark as it will always lead to many frustrations.

…this night was no exception, below is an abbreviated synopsis:

  • Open Google Maps and put in destination after it gets dark out
  • Drive and follow instructions until they don’t make sense
  • Quit following instructions
  • Start following instructions again
  • Come to a turn that you can’t make with a 40’ RV towing a Jeep
  • Go a different way until 20 minutes later your back at the turn from the opposite direction and now your back on track
  • Follow the road with no turn around spots until you come to a sign that says no outlet
  • Keep going because you can’t turn around here
  • Come to the end of the road
  • Disconnect the Jeep that is being towed
  • Tell your wife it’s her turn to drive and proceed to give her instructions on how to get turned around
  • Your wife, as is correct, points out a better way and proceeds to show you how it’s done.
  • Instruct her to keep coming forward even though the windshield is completely covered with small branches and leaves
  • Ok now your turned around and going back out the direction you came and you have your wife drive the RV following you in the Jeep
  • Turn on a new road you haven’t been down yet
  • Drive until you come to low hanging branches and stop once again no place to turn around.
  • Get out of Jeep and guide your wife driving the RV back and forth in the most optimal path so the large branches don’t take your air conditioners out
  • Scrape scratch bang boom…ok now your through that and things are looking up as you come to a stop sign that leads you back onto pavement
  • A couple more turns on paved roads and after a several hours driving in the dark you arrive at your destination and set camp up at 1 am in the morning

Now this is what I call a great start to a continuing journey.

The next day we have great success finding and seeing our oldest daughter Jamie. We were able to deliver her mail and some items we had for her.

Day three spent relaxing before traveling 80 miles one way for dinner with our friend Bruce in Frisco Tx. Dinner and catching up with old Friends is a great way to end your brief two night stop over before getting back in the saddle and heading further down the road.

On to Denver now to see another friend and get in a round of golf for the first time in over a year….
